Who you are?

"YOU LEARN WHO YOU ARE BY UNLEARNING WHO THEY TAUGHT YOU TO BE"

Somehow I can relate to this quote. I used to become an engineer because everybody said that it is the way to go. If you are excellent in your studies, go and become engineer, doctor, accountant. Back in the 90’s, we did this test called Holland Code. I identified that I am an Artistic person. When I reflected back then, it make sense. I used to love drawing, I love playing guitar and sing. But somehow, the same counsellor that gave me that test told me that I should be an engineer, simply because we are in the science school. The govt wants to produced thousands of engineers for future worker. And he said “we are not here to produce artistic people.” My heart was crushed back then. And kept on thinking he was right. Until I found myself back somewhere in 2011 where I decided to become a trainer and a speaker. And I always believe that I am a performer. I just have to perform on stage. That is why I am so much into profiling tools. Profiling is great tools, but some people who are using it is not been train in the philosophy behind all those profiling tools. It is not about the results, but what you do about the results that count.

==================================

Sebenarnya pada hujung 90-an saya diberikan satu ujian profiling dipanggil Holland Code. Saya mendapati saya seorang 'Artistik'. Bila saya reflect semula, patut la saya dulu suka melukis, suka bermain gitar dan menyanyi. Semua ciri-ciri artistik.
Sebenarnya saya dah jumpa diri saya lama dulu.

The Golden Triangle of Selling

"Everyone in sales now, but sales is not what it used to be!" That is a quote that stick in my mind from Daniel Pink. In his book, To Sell is Human, he explains why the landscape of selling has changed.

THE REALITY IN SALES

1. Today we have more seller than buyer.  - In a recent networking event, I was asking how many of you in this group are selling insurance? Three hands went up. Then I asked, in this group how many of you want to buy insurance? One hand went up. The reality is, today, we have more seller than buyer.

2. Customers are more demanding. - We have choices nowadays. In the past, there is limited products and we have to use whatever available in the market. Let say in the 80s, if I want to have a telephone, the only company that have the solutions is only Telekom Malaysia. Now, we have so many devices, and so many providers. So customers can choose.

3. Closing is harder. - Because customers are more demanding, closing is getting much harder. Hence we need a strategy to get better in sales.

WHAT WE ASSOCIATED SALES WITH?

Bagaimana nak motivasikan pekerja yang malas?

1. Dalam sesi leadership insight minggu lepas, saya kongsikan duit bukanlah faktor motivasi. Tetapi duit merupakan faktor hygiene.

Kerana impaknya berbeza.

Pos Malaysia: Leadership Lessons in Crisis Management

Viral post - it can make someone famous instantly and it also can kill a brand instantly.

There has been a viral post recently about some of the Pos Malaysia general worker throwing some Poslaju parcel while shipping it to the consumer. It creates a mixed reaction towards the general public and majority gave some bad comment about it.

Recently, Pos Malaysia created a video to counter the viral post that has shifted the perception towards their brand. However, the way the CEO handles the situation provides us (or at least me) some lessons in leadership.

Here are some of the lessons that come to my mind after viewing the video:

New Year 2018 - How to set goals?

Happy new year 2018! I hope that you are doing great celebrating the new year. And of course, 2017 have left us with some powerful lessons of life. Only those who spend some time to reflect on this lessons will actually learn from all the lessons that life taught us.

Perhaps you have some powerful lessons that you want to share. Please write down on the comment below so that we can learn from your lessons. And some of you might have a lot of achievement. Reflect on it and express gratitude towards all of your achievement. The attitude of gratitude will bring more of good.

When we talk about the new year, most people will talk about new year's resolution. And to me, I would prefer to talk about goal-setting. Why do we need to only set goals on 1st January every year? I have no idea why people do that, but for me, it is very simple. My company account will start fresh on 1st January so that when we set goals for the new year, we are actually planning according to our account cycle.

A goal is very important because when you don't set a goal, you are missing the clarity of what you are going to achieve. And CLARITY IS POWER!

When setting goals, let us set 3 categories of goals.

1. The goals that it is almost impossible to achieve. For example like when you earn RM100,000 a year, you want to target of making RM1B in the next year. To me it is not impossible, it is just a belief that we put in. But let's be rational, it is almost impossible to achieve that. But who cares, you don't to pay anything to set a goal. Might as well, set it very high.

My impossible goal for this year is I am aiming to own a Tesla Model S for this year. Let's see if I can achieve this. (according to Tesla website, if you book now you have to wait between 12 - 18 months).

2. The medium goal. This is the true goal that is possible and using SMART or some use SMARTER goal can achieve. It is more possible (attainable based on the acronym) and the goals that you have to focus on.

3. The bare minimum goal. This is the least that you have to achieve no matter what. There are certain things that it is a must for you to achieve. Go and put it on the list and work on it!

I am a fan of the Law of Attraction. I have my vision board and I have experienced miracles from the vision board that I created. A lot of them I don't realize that I have achieved it until later after I own it. Law of Attraction is great and it is embedded in it the word Action. So go out and take action!

I wish you all the best on your journey in 2018! May success be with you, Insyaallah.

Teknologi dan Kerjaya

1. Teknologi sentiasa merubah dunia.

Leadership is not about position

1. In the past, the famous success formula, "Go to school, get a good grades, secure a job with a reputable organisation, then you will be successful." Once you have a college degree, you might end up with an executive position. When the time comes, you will secured an important position. And you can use that position of power in the way that you want. The position is very much stable, and you don't have to worry for a long period of time.

2. But now things have changed, the position is no longer a means for you to do whatever you want within your authority. Your position is very much fragile. Even if you know how to play your card right, if something happens externally which is beyond your control, you might be losing your position.

3. In today's world, a position is no longer about seniority. In the past, just because you have enough experience, you can do whatever you want and the rest have to listen and follow. Today, if someone can do it cheaper than you, or if technology can replicate the same results that you produce, you are out of the game.

4. If you think experience alone can get you further in your life, let's think back again. Experience alone does not count in the 21st century. Routine work can always be outsourced or automate.
